Woman paid to test Orlando theme parks shares tips for cutting queue times

While most of us spend our working lives in an office, on a site or working with the public, some people are luckier than others.

One such person, who seems to have pulled the long straw of the world of work, is Alexandria Adamson from Glasgow.

The young woman was picked to become Ocean Florida's official Theme Park Tester in 2020.

Due to the pandemic, she was only able to visit Orlando to carry out her work as a ride tester this year, but she’s already spent three weeks testing out all of the attractions available.

Highlights of Alexandria’s trip include a day out at Busch Gardens which she says “has some of the best rollercoasters in all of Florida”.

Some of her favourite rides in the American state include Universal’s new Jurassic World themed Velocicoaster, Disney’s Star Wars themed Rise of the Resistance, and the Iron Gwazi ride at Busch Gardens.

And, as a pro ride tester Alexandria has picked up some clever tups for navigating theme parks.

She shared them with the Mirror – and some of them will cut down queue times.

Use the Theme Park app

The ride tester clams you should use the theme park apps to check when times get shorter.

Alexandria explained: "If there are big night shows or parades happening and you're not overly bothered about those, this is usually when wait times are at their lowest.

"Each park has its own app that will help you make the most of your day usually with wait times, how to navigate the parks, and all the entertainment and food and drink options

“Play about with the My Disney Experience app before you go.”

Look for resort perks

She commented: “If you’re a resort guest for specific parks use that extra time they give you to enter the parks, it may mean an early morning or late night, but it’s usually worth it."

Plan for bad weather

Alexandria noted: “Some parks are better to be in during bad weather.”

She noted that EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios have fewer attractions that close when there's lightning, compared to Magic Kingdom.

Pre-book restaurants

Alexandria commented: “It can be really difficult to get the full-service restaurants on the day".

So it’s better to book ahead where possible, the park tester claims that some of the best eateries are actually in the Disney resorts such as Enchanted Rose at The Grand Floridian and Trader Sam’s at the Polynesian.

Buy an Express Pass

When it comes to Universal Studios Alexandria recommends splashing out on the Express Pass.

She noted: “It will make such a difference to your day”, however it cannot be used on some rides like the new Jurassic World theme rollercoaster, the Velocicoaster, so weigh up the prod and cons for yourself.
