Britons have been found to prefer fish and chips to any over types of British dishes. Beating Roasts, English Breakfasts and bangers and mash, fish and chips shops serve 382 million meals to hungry Britons every year.

The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) has been promoting and protecting the interests of 10,500 fish and chip shops since 1913.

The Fish and Chip shops featured in the new guide have received the NFFF Quality Awards.

On the NFFF Quality Accreditation, Andrew Crook said: “The NFFF Quality Accreditation showcases the leading fish and chip takeaways across the UK, the shops that we all love to buy our fish supper from.”

The best fish and chips in Wales can be found at Penaluna’s Famous Fish and Chips.

On Tripadvisor, user Rogllin said: “We go there once every week.

“Portions are large, the batter is superb and the fish is from sustainable sources.

“No wonder they win awards.”

Paul P wrote: “Here in Hirwaun, a small South Wales valleys village, we are blessed to have an award-winning Fish and Chip shop.

“Deliciously cooked food, with a friendly service that is well worth a visit… You won’t be disappointed!”

In Stockport, Taylors was also named in the guide.

Taylors has been serving fish and chips for 55 years and they’ve “even been awarded an OBE for their services to the Fish & Chip industry.”

On Tripadvisor, Barry H said: “Easily the best fish and chip shop in Stockport.”

Clifton Village Fish Bar in Bristol and Belmont bay in Harrow, London, also made the guide.

Both chippies are considered some of the best in the country.

The Cods Scallops in Leicester and in Nottingham have won National Fish & Chip Awards before.

With chef John Molnar travelling the breadth of the country to hone his recipe and over 20 species of seafood on offer, Britons in Nottingham or Leicester will be hard pressed to find better.

Miss Charli Notts wrote: “Absolutely amazing, wouldn’t go anywhere else for fish and chips.

“Literally the best fish and chips ever, the beef dripping batter is amazing, the staff are lovely so friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is immaculate.”

For fish and chips in Cornwall, Britons should head to Holmbush Fish Bar in St Austell.

The traditional 50-year-old, family-run chippy made Tripadvisor user Alex J “a happy man”.

He said: “The chips have always been perfect and the batter has an incredible taste and texture to it.”

Charlie P wrote: “My wife and I got cod, saveloy, chips and mushy peas. Tasted fantastic, specifically the cod. Only had a better one in two places: one in Cyprus and one on Isle of Wight.”
