Premier Inn reopening plans may go ahead soon as the Government eyes revitalising the economy with the hospitality industry. Hotels shut with most of the country’s business in March to stave off COVID-19 infections. However, the resulting hit on the economy has left the Government eager to reopen as many businesses as possible, with most starting next month.
When is Premier Inn reopening?
Speaking in the final Government daily press conference yesterday, he revealed much of the hospitality industry would open in early July.
Pubs, restaurants and hotels will be able to open their doors from July 4.
Some Premier Inn properties have remained open since the pandemic began, but it will likely use the Government’s date to open for everyone.

Premier Inn management has accepted stays from critical and key workers during the coronavirus pandemic.
In a note on their website, they state they will be able to accept stays from July 4.
The note reads: “Following the Government advice on COVID-19, we have temporarily closed the majority of our Premier Inn, hub and Zip hotels.
“However, selected hotels are currently open exclusively to support critical and key workers.”
“Please check government guidelines to confirm you’re eligible to stay. We are unable to accommodate guests outside of those stated above and will decline your booking if necessary.
“The remainder of our hotels are available to book for all customers, for stays from 4th July 2020 onwards.”
Premier Inn has also revealed a selection of measures it will implement to keep their sites infection-free.
They have branded their policy CleanProtect and included nine actions they will take to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19.

These include:
- Minimising contact during check-in with Perspex screens
- Keeping social distancing measures in place
- Having auto-dispense hand sanitiser available in public areas
- Frequent cleaning of high-touch areas
- Special attention to cleaning air conditioning and heating controls, TV remotes, door handles and desks in bedrooms
- Laundering all linen at above 60 degrees, with disinfectant detergent
- Removing all extra pillows
- Replacing shower curtains after every stay
- Providing all staff with PPE equipment – masks remain optional
While Premier Inn will be able to welcome a host of British customers, they won’t be able to take full advantage of their reopening.
The Government currently has a compulsory quarantine in place, which forces people to self-isolate for two weeks after arrival in the UK.
Business leaders and officials have railed against the policy, which they believe will harm the UK’s tourist industry.
However, some experts suggest ministers may soon U-turn on their decision.
