‘Parents should do more to control children – screaming has ruined my holiday’

Thousands of Brits head to the countryside for camping holidays in the summer.

It's a brilliant budget-friendly option as you don't need much more than a tent, a pitch and some food that’s easy to cook on a camping stove – and children love the adventure.

But, one woman has caused a split in opinions online after ranting that a family ruined her holiday on a campsite.

Posting on Mumsnet, the woman said that a child who was staying in a tent with their family was screaming and crying every night.

She asked if she was unreasonable to expect the little one’s parents to alleviate the noise more.

The mum even likened the kid to the “spawn of satan”, claims the Sun.

She wrote: "Am I being unreasonable to think the parents are selfish k***heads?

"Fourth night in a row, toddler screams from 10.30 till 11.30 ish every night and then periodically every couple of hours.

"Not sad baby crying but toddler tantrum screaming and shouting. I am beginning to think it is the spawn of satan.

"Why would you go camping if your child doesn’t sleep, and why wouldn’t you go home out of consideration for others after a couple of nights?

"They are quiet now but I’m awake since the last screams at 3.30. Should I go and shake their tent?"

Fellow parents were divided over the situation – some said it was unreasonable not to expect to hear noise on a camp site.

One person wrote: “When your walls are made of plastic it's unreasonable to expect to not hear conversations, drunks, laughing, sex, and babies crying.

“Next time take some ear plugs!”

Another added: “I'm on holiday currently – not camping though! And my toddler has been very unsettled – it wasn't expected at all though – they sleep fine at home!

“So it's a bit unfair of you – no one really knows how young children are going to be when taking them away for the first time.”

But, others agreed that the situation was untenable.

One mum noted: “When your walls are made of plastic, it's incredibly unreasonable to stay there with a non sleeping tantrumming child.”

While another added: “I'd have to go and say something. If it was my child I'd put them in the car and get off the site. No way would I subject others to that night after night.”

A third commented: “It might be the only holiday they can afford so they don’t want to leave. If it was me I’d probably leave though.”

And, still more sympathised with the woman whose sleep was being disrupted.

One parent added: “Just back from camping and we could hear the man from 100m away snoring in our tent! Why would you go if you snore that loudly!”
