‘I’m a flight attendant and you shouldn’t sleep within two hours of departure’

Flight attendants know plenty of hacks for making the most of your plane journey – from the best seats to pick to how to get extra luggage on board.

But, they also know some of the things you should avoid while flying.

Flight attendant, @tommycimato, posted a video on TikTok warning folks they should never sleep while leaning on the window.

“Do not fall asleep or lean your head on the window,” said Tommy.

“You are not the only one that has done that and you don't know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window.”

And, other air hostesses have spoken about things they would advise against as well.

One of these being that you should never fall asleep within the first two hours of the flight.

She posted on a Reddit page where cabin crew were asked if it was expected that they would wake passengers up for the food service or leave them to sleep.

The person asking the question noted: "My mother and I were on an international flight back to the United States.

"It was dinner and we were both sleeping during the time and we were skipped and she had to call the flight attendants back to us.

"Are you guys not supposed to disturb us? I’m not mad about that I’m just curious."

And, many air hosts and hostesses answered his question.

One noted: "Flight attendants aren’t supposed to wake you up.”

“Surveys have shown that over half of travellers just want rest,” added another.

While a third explained that there is a way to both sleep and eat on your flight.

They said: "If a flight attendant skips you because you were sleeping and you still want to be served, we just expect you to let us know and we will gladly bring you your meal or drink/snack."

Another recommended putting down your tray table while you sleep.

“We'll leave your items without waking you,” they noted.

A third said: "If you want to be woken tell your flight attendant and/or put an obvious note.

"First service will probably happen in the first two hours of the flight. If you can't stay up for that it's on you.'

Food service usually happens within the first few hours of the flight so if you can stand to stay awake then plan to eat before trying to snooze.
