Hotel stays these days come with heightened cleaning measures as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. However, things weren’t always as ship-shape across the board as they may be in 2020.
In fact, according to an anonymous hotel worker, there are several spots in hotel rooms commonly used by guests that in the past were “rarely cleaned”.
The hotel worker shared a behind-the-scenes insight on Reddit.
“The glasses for toothbrushes are not always washed since the cleaners are in a hurry, often they are just held under the tap and rinsed – if even that,” wrote the worker.
In order to check whether a previous guest has used these cups, the worker advises: “Check for lip prints.”
They continue: “If there is a coffee mug with freeze-dried coffee, check to see that it’s not been standing too long before using.”
Cups which may have been unused, but left standing for some time, could have a layer of dust inside.
The worker also revealed one commonly used item which was often overlooked when it came to deep cleaning.
“The remotes for the TV are rarely cleaned,” they explained.

The good news is, that for the most part, these minor slip-ups are a thing of the past.
Hotels have unveiled a whole host of new cleaning regimes since reopening their doors following the initial lockdown in the spring.
Global hotel chain Hilton, for example, is now working in partnership with RB, the maker of Lysol and Dettol.
Certain “high-touch areas”, including door handles, light switches, TV remotes and thermostats, are now being disinfected on a heightened basis.
Meanwhile, a room seal is placed on all doors after cleaning to show guests that their room has not been accessed since the cleaning process.
However, holidaymakers can take matters into their own hands by taking along disinfectant wipes and ensuring they have hand sanitiser with them during their travels.
In fact, even before the pandemic took a hold of the UK, a survey by End of Tenancy Cleaning Company found that 37 percent of Britons clean a hotel room before using.
Meanwhile, 32 percent do a sweep or dust test of a hotel room before using it.
