Users are increasingly using Google Maps Street View to spot and subsequently share unexpected scenarios being played out around the globe. Such was the case with an incident in Leiden, a city in the south of Holland.
The municipality, famed for its student population, is no stranger to animated antics from its students, particularly in the summer months.
However, one sight snapped by Google Maps’ cameras has caused some controversy in 2020 that onlookers may not have been so concerned over in the past.
The moment was sighted by Reddit user, who shared it to the forum.
In the scene, a group of anonymous people can be seen together, scantily clad in a blow-up paddling pool.
Given the markings on the ground, it appears the pool has been set up in a car park near to one of the city’s famous canals.
According to one Reddit user, the car park is actually situated outside of a university fraternity.
The revellers can be seem sat together in a group enjoying some beers in the sunshine.
Though this behaviour is likely not uncommon amongst students in the warmer months, Reddit users seem to have grown concerned about when the image was taken.

One user wrote: “The real question is since its copyright [in in] 2020: Was it taken in 2020 because that ain’t no 1.5m/6 feet.”
In defence of the group, a Netherlands resident argued: “We have had our periods where like 15 people could come together.”
Despite this, a third user pointed out: “We have had our periods where like 15 people could come together.”
It seems the closeness of the group was a cause for concern in the ongoing days of social distancing following the coronavirus pandemic.
However, there was some good news for those who were a little worried.
Based on the copyright data provided by Google Maps, one savvy commenter identified the image as being taken long before COVID-19 reared its head.
“Since the address is in the picture I went there.
“The photo was taken in July 2018, as you can see in the bottom right,” they wrote.
Social distancing controversy aside, other users simply found humour in the “shenanigans”.
One wrote: “Student city confirmed.”
A second said: “Real life shenanigans right there.”
A third joked: “I’ll bet no one got out to take a leak. Wildplassen!”
