In a new TV series, Fern Britton is in Cornwall and absolutely loving her life. Now living in the county, the ex-TV presenter and now author is intent on finding out as much as she can about one of the UK’s favourite staycation spot.
About living in Cornwall, she said: “Living in Cornwall is slower and much funnier than anywhere I have lived.”
With four million visitors a year, Cornwall is one of the most popular staycation destinations.
Fern started holidaying in Looe with her family in the 1950s and is now a resident, and on a personal quest to understand what makes the county she loves so uniquely captivating.
Asked about her favourite places in Cornwall, Fern said: “Anywhere in Cornwall suits me but my favourite places include Looe, Polperro, Tintagel, Sennen Cove, Bodmin Moor, Padstow, Golitha Falls and Trebarwith strand.”

On the first episode, airing tonight, Fern is seen driving a classic car and going back to her family holidaying destination.
She said: “My fondest memories are swimming with my uncle in Looe.”
The south of the county, and Looe in particular, is where Fern fell in love with Cornwall, and viewers may just follow suit.
Taking viewers along with her for the ride, Fern goes on a speedboat ride, meets a geologist on the Lizard Peninsula and learns about the multiple Cornish rebellions against English rule.
From the copper mines to the moors, Fern leaves no stone unturned to make viewers fall in love with Cornwall, just like she did in the 1950s.
She even saddles up on Bodmin Moor to find out why so many literary greats have been inspired by Cornwall, and how their visions have made the remote peninsula county of Cornwall world famous.
She said of the experience: “The horse riding was enormous fun, but less riding, more plodding!”
She continued: “In the 80s a friend and I would go up to riding stables on the moor and do all the wonderful riding there was.”
And in classic British holiday style, the pub was also on the menu: “Even going to the pub where we would hitch the horses up like cowboys and go in for a pint and a sausage.”
Fern is making new memories on TV, with the vintage white MGB car she is seen driving around a firm favourite.
She said: “I adored my white MGB. I drove one in the early 80s and it is my most favourite car. I would have loved to have kept this one!”
Viewers will be able to follow Fern in her Cornish adventures tonight.
To learn why Cornwall is such a special staycation destination, viewers can watch My Cornwall with Fern Britton on Chanel 5 at 8pm tonight.
