Puerto Rico to be featured on New Year's Eve telecast

Puerto Rico will ring in the New Year in style with the first-ever Spanish-language countdown festivities on the grounds of the convention center and the adjacent Distrito T-Mobile entertainment and nightlife complex in San Juan as “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2022” airs on the ABC network from Times Square on Dec. 31.

The event, a partnership with Discover Puerto Rico and Gov. Pedro Pierluisi alongside MRC Live & Entertainment and ABC, will feature a live global broadcast showcasing “the vibrancy and culture of the island and will commemorate San Juan’s 500th anniversary as well,” according to Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico.

The broadcast will air live on ABC starting at 8 p.m. EST on Dec. 31 and run until 2 a.m. on Jan. 1. Puerto Rico’s countdown will occur at 11 p.m. Eastern time.

“We’re ready to inaugurate a New Year’s Eve celebration like never before, to show the world that Puerto Rico is an island that is open for business,” the governor said. “This event will be enjoyed by both our local community and millions across the world.”

Dean pointed out, “Puerto Rico will be front and center for a huge global audience during this event as we head into our peak tourism season. We invite travelers everywhere to start their 2022 alongside us.”

Distrito T-Mobile opened two months ago near the Puerto Rico Convention Center and features restaurants, shops and live entertainment.
