Queen Elizabeth will remain a lady of leisure through the end of 2020.
Like every summer, the Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, are spending time at their beloved Balmoral Castle in Scotland. However, this year, the couple went on vacation with a few dozen staffers who are all sheltering away from their families to ensure the monarch’s safety. And it appears they will all have to hunker down for just a little while longer. According to new report in the Sunday Times, the Queen has no plans to leave anytime soon.
A royal insider told the paper, the Queen won’t return to Buckingham Palace, her London home, "for the foreseeable future." This, Town & Country noted, will mark her longest absence from the palace ever.
The Sunday Times reported, once the Queen and Prince Philip do finally leave Balmoral they won’t go to the palace, but rather, will make a new temporary home out of Windsor Castle. She will not move back to the palace, the paper said, until the threat from coronavirus is over.
"There is a desire to get Buckingham Palace up and running again as a working palace, but only if all the relevant advice suggests that it is appropriate to do so," a source told the Sunday Times.
But this doesn’t mean we won’t see the Queen make an appearance or two. As the report added, she will commute to any London-based event that is pressing or requires her attendance.
Other royals will soon return to work too. Harper’s Bazaar reported, Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are also expected to return to London for the fall and resume their normal duties after they visit the Queen at Balmoral for an end of summer escape with their children. And hey, at least the Queen knows how to use Zoom, right?
